Apparently I didn't have a " permit " to mine this system, (that was kind of funny as I wasn't even mining just passing through ). Anyway since I haden't paid this extortion racket mob some isk they destroyed me. I have been playing on and off for years and I have run into this once or twice before but for new player just trying to start out in the game this is a terrible thing. I have been hearing lots the last year or so about EVE's player numbers dwindling and must say I have noticed it myself as there seem to be far fewer pilots in space these days. Anyway it didn't bother me as I only lost a shuttle and a few implants but this kind of action will only hasten the games demise as new players are being preyed upon by these thugs just as they are starting out.
They more things change, the more things stay the same. That is a very old saying, but like most old saying, it's grounded in the truth.
Years ago it was Goons who were the root of all evil. Every third post on these forums back then was about how goons were bad people IRL and they were killing the game (the game that was growing then) and CCP better do something about them for the sake of new players (though it was NEW PLAYERS complaining on the forums, it was veteran high sec players complaining about their losses) etc etc.
But then I'd see Goons in game as I was almost always in a group opposed to them (Atlas, IT, NcDot, Raiden etc) and I saw how they weren't invincible, they exploded like everyone else, and they weren't worth fearing or even talking about that often. I lost exactly one shuttle to a Goon ganking Thrasher in all my years of playing in high sec. I came to realize that all the forum complain about goons was just hot are coming from mentally impotent people who would rather be victims of something than fight back or at least pay attention to the game they were playing..
Well, nothing has changed. The boogeyman is just CODE now rather than Goons, because it seems the complaining types need something big to fear/hate. CODE is nothing more than a group of people sitting in front of their computers playing a video game and taking advantage of the mental and emotional inadequacies of other people playing the same video game. If one fills in the holes of those mental and emotional inadequacies (not unlike filling in a Resist Hole on a ship you pilot in game), you soon find out that you are immune to the actions and words of CODE.
Why that doesn't happen in game is the same reason it doesn't happen IRL: self reflection and taking responsibility for one's own outcomes is hard, blaming others is easy, even though blaming others leads to even more victimisation... |
